Campbell River’s Mackenzie Paddington exceeded even her own expectations on Saturday, as the Claremont Secondary student captured gold in the 400 metre freestyle final at the Canadian Swim Trials held at Saanich Commonwealth Place.

Paddington’s time of 4:09.04 qualifies her for the FINA World Championships this summer in Budapest.

Meanwhile, Victoria’s Hilary Caldwell also advanced to the FINA Worlds by capturing silver in the 100m and 200m backstroke.
