Keith Notter claims a $1 million guaranteed Lotto 6/49 prize he and his group of friends won in Wednesday's draw.

A group that regularly meets for coffee in Campbell River now has a lot more money to spend on cups of Joe.

The BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC) says the seven men who meet once a week also buy group lottery tickets and won Wednesday’s guaranteed $1 million prize in the Lotto 6/49 draw.

In a release Friday, the BCLC says the men met 30 years ago working at a local copper and zinc mine and their friendship grew when they retired and began their coffee get-togethers.

“We’ve been getting together every Wednesday the last four years,” says Keith Notter, who purchased the winning ticket at Merecroft Village shopping mall in Campbell River.

“Everyone chips in five bucks and we buy tickets for the Lotto 6/49 and Lotto Max draw. This is the first time we’ve ever won anything this big.”

Notter says the group never made plans because they never believed they would win.

The BCLC says the group of friends plan to keep having their weekly java get-togethers every Wednesday and continue playing the lottery.
