She is slowly starting to find her feet again but it continues to be a long road to recovery for Lydia Blackwell.

Now her community is coming together to try to give her and her mother a helping hand.

The 23-year-old remains in a Victoria hospital after suffering serious injuries in a single-vehicle crash near Lantzville on March 30th.

At the time, witnesses told police a tire may have blown out, causing her to lose control of her vehicle and flip on Highway 19.

The Qualicum Beach woman had graduated last year from UBC and had planned to pursue graduate studies this Fall.

Now her mother Sandra Van Kessel has put her acupuncture business in Bowser on hold to be in Victoria near the hospital.

She  is renting a temporary suite, as well as still paying bills at home.

In an effort to help, the Oceanside community is working to raise funds and are organizing a dance benefit and silent auction.

It will be held at the Lighthouse Community Centre in Qualicum Bay on Saturday, June 1st.

“We have some awesome donations for the silent auction and great gift certificates.  We hope that people in the area can come out to support the event.”

There is also a GoFundMe page set up, you can find details here
