A community group in Nanaimo is warning residents of a wandering black bear that was spotted this weekend.

The bear was first spotted in the 500-block of Victoria Road, near Pine Street, on Friday evening, according to the Nanaimo Area Public Safety Association.

A photo shows the bear on a branch of a tree overlooking a fence in a resident’s backyard.

A community member tells CHEK News the bear was not hostile and appeared to be scared.

The bear was spotted again on Saturday morning near Bayview Elementary School, according to the community group.

CHEK News has reached out to the BC Conservation Officer Service for further details.
