BC SPCA plea to adopt five abandoned hedgehogs proves an overwhelming success

The tale of the five hedgehogs at the BC SPCA in Maple Ridge all started last Wednesday when they found the quintet abandoned in their parking lot.

The put out a request for suitable supplies “hedgehog food, insects and treats, hedgehog toys, water bottles, and Carefresh bedding” and had the vet check them out to see if they were okay.

By Friday, staff had given them nicknames (the Jackson 5) and determined their personalities (Tito was the shy one in need of a love and patience) so it was time to put out a call for people to come pick them up and give them homes. They’d be available on Monday.

Little did they know just how warm and fuzzy a response they would get for the five spiny mammals.

By Monday, the branch was coping with constant phone calls, a full email inbox, and so it was time for a plea of a different kind.

“We knew they would be popular but had no idea just how popular,” a Facebook post reads.

“Due to the overwhelming amount of people wanting to adopt them and the amount of applications we have received we are no longer accepting applications.”

It’s not clear if the Jackson 5 will be staying together or will be adopted out to different homes.

It is quite A BC animal adoption story no matter what.
