
Power has been restored to thousands of customers in Nanaimo.
Fallen trees from heavy winds downed power lines at around 6:25 a.m. this morning, leaving approximately 3,420 customers in Nanaimo without power, according to BC Hydro.
BC Hydro says crews managed to restore power to 3,129 customers in areas north of Nanaimo Lakes Road, east of Twiggly Wiggly Road, south of Departure Bay and west of Front Street, by 11:30 a.m.
Crews were also able to restore power to 290 customers in an area east of Townsite Road and north of the Gabriola Island ferry terminal, by 9 a.m.
BC Hydro says there are currently no other outages in the Nanaimo area but that 29 customers in Campbell River are without power due to down powerlines.
The affected area includes Rainbow Road and Chum Road and BC Hydro says crews are on scene and power is expected to be restored by 1 p.m.
