BC Hydro crews have been working since Monday to restore power to all of its customers following a snowstorm that hit southwestern B.C.

BC Hydro crews have been working since Monday’s storm in an effort to restore power to all of its customers and officials believe the process will be completed by Wednesday.

According to an update posted by the power supply company, 99 per cent of the customers impacted by Dec. 21’s storm have now had their power restored.

Hydro says that more than 240,000 customers lost power as a result of the adverse weather that hit Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, the Lower Mainland and the Southern Interior.

“Crews have been working around the clock to restore power, replacing hundreds of spans of power line and replacing dozens of power poles, transformers and cross-arms,” said BC Hydro in a Wednesday morning update.

On the BC Hydro Outages Map, there are still multiple small areas of Greater Victoria, Cobble Hill and Duncan that are still without power.

The area that is seemingly the most impacted continues to be on the Southern Gulf Islands with a slew of scattered outages.

In total, it appears that there are over 1,500 customers still without power in the South Vancouver Island region.

“BC Hydro appreciates its customers’ patience and will provide updated estimates for power restoration as they become available,” adds the organization.
