BC Ferries is giving a preemptive warning that there will be sailing delays for travellers in Alert Bay, Port McNeill and Sointula next Sunday.

On March 21, a training event will take place on the Island-class ferry — the Island Aurora — that normally sails between these communities.

The Island Aurora entered the BC Ferries’ fleet in June of 2020, as a new hybrid-electric ship.

The travel company says the training will consist of emergency maneuvering and recovery procedures to improve the training and continued proficiency of the crew.

There have been no details yet of which sailings are affected, BC Ferries simply saying that schedules will be impacted.

“BC Ferries would like to thank its customers for their patience and understanding during this safety and emergency training event,” said the company in a release on Sunday.
