B.C. adds 185 new COVID-19 cases, 8 in Island Health

British Columbia health officials on Wednesday reported 185 new COVID-19 cases — including eight in the Island Health region — and three deaths since their last update on July 27.

British Columbia health officials on Wednesday reported 185 new COVID-19 cases — including eight in the Island Health region — and three deaths since their last update on July 27.

The number of confirmed cases in B.C. is now at 149,444 while the death toll climbs to 1,771.

Of the new cases, 26 were recorded in Vancouver Coastal Health, 35 were in Fraser Health, eight were in Island Health, 113 were in Interior Health, and two were in Northern Health.

There are currently 909 active cases in the province, 47 people in hospital — 20 of whom are in intensive care.

A total of 146,756 people in B.C. have recovered from COVID-19 while 6,685,982 doses of vaccine have been administered province-wide.

Today’s data was released as a statement to the media.

Island Health

There are currently 38 active cases — one in North Island, 10 in Central Island and 27 in South Island — and one person in hospital on Vancouver Island.

Over the past 24 hours, there were 584 new tests for COVID-19 performed and 9,992 doses of vaccine administered on Vancouver Island. Of those doses, seven doses were AstraZeneca, 1,945 were Moderna and 7,970 doses were Pfizer.

A total of 1,098,892 vaccine doses — 43 per cent of those are second doses — have been administered on Vancouver Island. This includes 32,575 doses of AstraZeneca, 270,446 doses of Moderna and 785,871 doses of Pfizer.

Since the pandemic began, there have been 5,237 cases reported, 41 deaths, and 257 total hospitalizations, and 5,154 recoveries recorded on Vancouver Island.
