British Columbia health officials on Wednesday reported 342 new COVID-19 cases, including 32 on Vancouver Island, and no new deaths since their last update on Aug. 3.
Today’s figures bring the number of confirmed cases in B.C. to 150,973 while the death toll remains at 1,772.
Of the 342 new cases reported — the highest daily total since late May — a total of 171 were in Interior Health, 66 were in Fraser Health, 57 were in Vancouver Coastal Health, 32 were recorded in Island Health, and 13 were in Northern Health.
There are currently 1,764 active cases in the province — including 109 within the Island Health region — and 55 people in hospital, 23 of whom are in intensive care.
However, Island Health has identified 89 active cases on Vancouver Island — five in North Island, 39 in Central Island and 45 in South Island — according to its latest update.
A total of 147,409 people in B.C. have recovered from COVID-19 while 6,931,815 doses of vaccine have been administered province-wide.
Since the last update on Aug. 3, there were 652 new COVID tests performed and 6,040 doses of vaccine administered — seven were AstraZeneca, 1,080 were Moderna and 4,953 doses were Pfizer — on Vancouver Island. The total number of doses administered within Island Health now stands at 1,146,102 with 519,105 (45 per cent) being second doses.
Vancouver Island has recorded a total of 5,339 cases, 41 deaths, 257 total hospitalizations, and 5,186 recoveries since the onset of the pandemic.
Canada, meanwhile, has recorded 1.43 million cases, with more than 550,000 identified in Ontario.
Worldwide, nearly 200,000 million cases and more than 4.4 million deaths have been reported throughout the pandemic, the latest data from the World Health Organization shows.
The United States has recorded 35 million cases, more than anywhere else in the world, followed by India with 31.7 million cases, Brazil with 19.9 million, Russia with 6.35 million, France with 6.03 million, and the United Kingdom with 5.9 million.
