Island Health

According to the latest update from Island Health, there are 597 active cases — 45 in North Island, 240 in Central Island, and 312 in South Island — currently on Vancouver Island.

Thirty-seven people in the region are currently in hospital with COVID-19, 25 of whom are in critical care.

There have been a total of 157 new cases have been identified in those ages 30 to 39 since Sept. 27, the most of any age cohort on Vancouver Island during that time. In the 20-29 cohort, there were 137 cases recorded, the second-highest figure during the same period. A total of 126 cases were recorded in those 10 and under during the same period, the third-most of any age group on the Island.

Over the weekend, there were 4,614 doses of vaccine administered on Vancouver Island, according to the BCCDC’s dashboard. Of those doses, 104 were AstraZeneca, 2,577 were Moderna and 1,933 doses were Pfizer. Meanwhile, a total of 1,311,799 vaccine doses — 632,626 are second doses and 1,058 are listed as “other” doses — have been administered on Vancouver Island. This includes 33,916 doses of AstraZeneca, 358,278 doses of Moderna, and 919,605 doses of Pfizer.

Since the onset of the pandemic, there have been 8,932 cases reported, 70 deaths, 416 total hospitalizations, and 8,129 recoveries recorded on Vancouver Island.

Editor’s note: The BCCDC lists the active case count for Vancouver Island at 640, which is 43 more active cases than what Island Health has reported. There are often discrepancies between the figures due to “differences in reporting” timeframes between the two agencies.
