A total of 190,918 people in B.C. have recovered from COVID-19 while 8,060,794 doses of vaccine have been administered province-wide.

Meanwhile, new data provided by health officials shows that between Oct. 8 and Oct. 14, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 68.3 per cent of cases in the province and from Oct. 1 to Oct. 14, they accounted for 74.6 per cent of hospitalizations.

Health officials also say 89.6 per cent of all eligible adult British Columbians and 89.2 per cent of all eligible people 12 and older have received their first dose of coronavirus vaccine.

Island Health

With the announcement of three new deaths in the region over the weekend, Island Health has now recorded 12 deaths since the beginning of the month.

According to the latest update from Island Health, there are 437 active cases — 46 in North Island, 204 in Central Island, and 187 in South Island — on Vancouver Island.

Forty-six people in the region are in hospital, 27 of whom are in critical care.

Since the pandemic began, there have been 9,924 cases reported, 83 deaths, 483 total hospitalizations, and 9,286 recoveries recorded on Vancouver Island.

Editor’s note: The BCCDC lists the active case count for Vancouver Island at 521, which is 84 more active cases than what Island Health has reported. There are often discrepancies between the figures due to “differences in reporting” timeframes between the two agencies.
