B.C. reports 667 new COVID-19 cases, 13 new deaths in last 24 hours

British Columbia health officials are reporting 667 new cases of COVID-19 for the entire province on Friday, with 59 linked to the Island Health region.

Within the Island Health region, there is currently a total of 572 active COVID-19 cases.

In a statement released to the media, Dr. Bonnie Henry says that 367 are in hospital with 152 people in critical care as a result of the virus. There are currently 5,128 active cases in British Columbia.

Since Thursday’s numbers, there have been 75 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 246 in the Fraser Health region, 59 in the Island Health region, 101 in the Interior Health region, 184 in the Northern Health region and two new cases for people who reside outside of Canada.

There were 13 additional deaths related to the virus on Friday. This brings the provincial death total over the course of the pandemic to 2,055.

Of the total deaths in the last 24 hours, two were located in Interior Health Authority while the other 11 were in Fraser Health.

Also as of Friday, the total number of cases in British Columbia over the course of the pandemic has reached 196,433.

As for the Province’s total vaccination program, B.C. has now administered a total of 8,025,356 doses of COVID-19 immunizations.

Health officials say that equates to first doses for 89.5 per cent of all eligible adult British Columbians and 89.0 per cent of all eligible people 12 and older.

In addition, 83.7 per cent of all eligible adults have received their second dose, totalling 3,621,151 residents.

From Oct. 7-13, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 68.3% of cases and from Sept. 30-Oct. 13, they accounted for 76.3% of hospitalizations.

British Columbia’s health officials have also announced a new series of circuit breaker restrictions for residents living in the Northern Health Authority amid spiking COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.

The new restrictions announced on Thursday, October 14, will remain in effect through to Friday, November 19.
