Five people on Vancouver Island have died from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, officials say.

Five people on Vancouver Island have died from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, officials say.

B.C. health officials in a statement to the media Wednesday reported 274 new COVID-19 cases and 14 deaths, including five in the Island Health region.

The remaining deaths were in Fraser and Vancouver Coastal health regions.

Of the new cases, 77 were in Island Health, 48 were in Fraser Health, 36 were in Vancouver Coastal Health, 29 were in Northern Health and 84 were in Interior Health.

There are 405 individuals in the province currently hospitalized with COVID-19, 58 of whom are in critical care.

The number of confirmed cases in B.C. is now at while the death toll climbs to 2,929.

Officials also say there has been a COVID-19 outbreak declared at Luther Court in Greater Victoria, but did not provide any further details.
