
British Columbia Centre for Disease Control has reported 519 new cases – including 34 in Island Health – and 12 deaths from COVID-19 since their last update on Jan. 12.
The number of confirmed cases in B.C. climbs to 59,072 while the province’s death toll has reached 1,031.
Of the new cases reported, 117 were recorded in Vancouver Coastal Health, 235 were in Fraser Health, 34 in Island Health, 84 in Interior Health, and 45 in Northern Health.

Island Health
Once again the provincial number of new cases reported on Vancouver Island today differs from the number of new cases shown on Island Health’s dashboard.
According to Island Health, 28 new cases were identified over the past 24 hours.
There are currently 185 active cases on Vancouver Island – 39 in the south Island, 130 in the central Island, and 27 in the north Island.
Since the last update on Jan. 12, there are four more active cases in south Island, 10 more active cases in central Island and two fewer cases in north Island.
Over the course of the pandemic, the Island Health region has reported 1,182 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Of those cases, 385 are in the south Island, 549 are in the central Island, and 248 are in the north Island.
