B.C. health officials in a press release Friday reported 583 new COVID-19 cases and 12 new deaths over the past 24 hours.

One of the deaths recorded in the province was in the Island Health region, which also had 96 new cases.

Hospitalizations, which have been on the decline for days, continued to drop once again across the province. Officials say there are currently 599 people in hospital due to the virus, with 96 in critical care.

Since the onset of the pandemic, the province has recorded 347,376 new cases and 2,851.

Provincial health officials say one death was removed from the overall total due to a “data” correction.

Editor’s note: B.C. has abandoned providing data about active cases and access to testing has been limited throughout much of the pandemic.
