B.C. reports 326 new COVID-19 cases, 71 in Island Health

British Columbia health officials in a statement to the media Tuesday reported 326 new COVID-19 cases and one new death since their last update on Dec. 6.

The number of confirmed cases in B.C. is now at 220,856 while the death toll climbs to 2,363.

Of the new cases, 71 were in Island Health, 53 Vancouver Coastal Health, 92 were in Fraser Health, and 22 were in Interior Health.

The lone death was recorded in the Northern Health region.

Currently, there are 2,814 active cases in the province, including 91 in the Island Health region, and 242 people in hospital — 82 of whom are in intensive care. However, according to Island Health’s dashboard, there are 518 active cases in the region — 224 in North Island, 214 in Central Island, and 80 in South Island.

As of Tuesday, 85.6 per cent of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 82 per cent have received their second dose, according to health officials.

A total of 215,577 people in B.C. have recovered from COVID-19 while 8,832,580 doses of vaccine have been administered province-wide.
