The province’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has announced funding to promote 24 events across B.C.

Provided through the government’s Tourism Events Program the funding will provide marketing support in order to draw visitors from outside the province to B.C.’s tourism industry.

The Victoria World Accordion and Tango Festival/68th World Accordion Championships in November and the Comox Filberg Festival in Aug. 2019 are recipients from Vancouver Island.

Previous events on the Island such as the 2017 Women’s World Rugby Sevens in Langford and GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon were apart of the program.

The ministry says the events generate tourism and economic impact throughout British Columbia and inspire people from around the world to visit.

“British Columbians have created events and festivals which deliver world-class entertainment for visitors and locals alike,” said Lisa Beare, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture in a statement.

“Our government is supporting communities and local tourism by providing important funding that will help make these events even more successful. This funding will help attract even more people to enjoy the great experiences our province offers.”

Applications for the Tourism Events Program funding are accepted twice yearly. The application window is currently open through Oct. 31, 2018, for events between May 1, 2019, and April 30, 2020. Those interested can find the application here.

The Victoria event will receive $10,000, and the Comox festival was awarded $24,500.
