West Shore RCMP bike unit officers were able to catch a thief with the use of a GPS equipped bait bike Wednesday in Langford.

Police are investigating several thefts of what they describe as “high-end electric bicycles” in the West Shore.

The bait bike was left at the West Shore Town Centre in Langford Wednesday.

The suspect provided a false name to officers, but he was identified through a fingerprint search.

West Shore RCMP says 49-year-old Trevor Thurston was held in custody for a court appearance in Colwood Thursday, charged with theft under $5,000, obstructing a peace officer and failure to comply with recognizance.

“Police are using high tech tools to capture property crime offenders in the West Shore including deploying bait bikes and vehicles,” West Shore Cst. Alex Berube said in a statement.

“We will use all our resources and technology at West Shore RCMP to quickly apprehend criminals.”
