B.C. reports 677 new COVID-19 cases, 86 in Island Health

Health officials in British Columbia are reporting 677 new cases of COVID-19 and one death Tuesday.

The number of confirmed cases in B.C. climbs to 175,819 while the province’s death toll rises to 1,866.

Of the new cases, 86 were recorded in Island Health, bringing the active total in the region to 627,  102 were recorded in Vancouver Coastal Health, 237 were in Fraser Health, 153  in Interior Health, and 99 in Northern Health.

There are currently 6,165 active cases in the province and 288 people in hospital — 140 of whom are in intensive care.

The province says 7,630,846 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been delivered in B.C. so far, and that 86 per cent of people 12 and over have received their first dose while 78.5 per cent have received their second dose.

While the Ministry of Health reported Thursday 627 active cases in Island Health, the health authority listed 527 active cases for the region. Data can differ between the two agencies because of reporting periods.

Of the 527 active cases, Island Health said  202 were on the South Island, 254 were on the Central Island and 71 were on the North Island.
