B.C. reports 32 new COVID-19 deaths over the weekend

British Columbia health officials are reporting 32 deaths due to COVID-19 over the weekend, as well as 3,287 new cases of the disease.

Of the new deaths, nine occurred in Fraser Health, 14 in Vancouver Coastal Health, three in Interior Health, one in Northern Health and five in Island Health.

The province is also reporting 3,287 new COVID-19 cases including:

  • 1,326 cases from Friday to Saturday
  • 1,118 cases from Saturday to Sunday
  • 843 cases from Sunday to Monday

The number of confirmed cases in B.C. climbs to 333,925 while the province’s death toll now stands at 2,707.

Of the new cases, 440 were recorded in Vancouver Coastal Health, 854 were in Fraser Health, 478 in Island Health, 999 in Interior Health, and 499 in Northern Health.

There are currently 23,739 active cases in the province, including 1,174 in Island Health, and 987 people in hospital — 141 of whom are in intensive care.

According to the BCCDC dashboard, there are 110 people currently hospitalized in Island Health due to the virus, with nine in critical care.

The province says as of Monday, 90.2 per cent of eligible British Columbians five and older have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 84.6 per cent have received their second dose.

It also reported 11 new health care facility outbreaks on Monday, including Sunridge Place, Island View Place, Nanaimo Seniors Village, Sluggett House and Glacier View Lodge in Island Health.

The five deaths in the Island Health brings the region’s death toll for the year to 48.
