B.C. reports 249 new COVID-19 cases, 56 in Island Health

British Columbia health officials on Thursday reported 249 new COVID-19 cases.

British Columbia health officials on Thursday reported 249 new COVID-19 cases, including 56 linked to Vancouver Island, and two new deaths since their last update on March 30.

The number of confirmed cases in B.C. is now at 356,501 while the death toll climbs to 2,998.

Of the new cases, 56 were in Island Health, 55 were recorded in Vancouver Coastal Health, 46 were in Fraser Health, 71 were in Interior Health, and 21 were in Northern Health.

There are currently 281 people in hospital across the province — 42 of whom are in intensive care. In Island Health, there are currently 44 people in hospital, 3 of whom are in critical care, according to the BCCDC’s dashboard.

New data from the B.C. government shows that 93.5 per cent of all eligible individuals 12 and older have received their first dose of vaccine, 91.1 per cent have received their second dose while 57.5 per cent have received their third dose.

Since the onset of the pandemic, the Island Health region has recorded a total of 33,277 cases and more than 230 deaths.
