The province is boosting fines for the illegal use of off-road vehicles and snowmobiles in environmentally sensitive habitats to $575.
It says those areas included all BC Parks and southern mountain caribou habitats.
Court convictions for snowmobiling in southern mountain caribou habitats also may result in a fine up to $200,00 and six months imprisonment.
The province says previous fines of up to $345 did not reflect the impact of illegal off-road vehicle and snowmobile traffic on sensitive habitats and species in British Columbia.
