B.C. Ferries says Thursday and Friday travel between Departure Bay and Horseshoe Bay will be extremely busy to start the Canada Day long weekend.

The corporation says anyone travelling with a vehicle and without a reservation should avoid sailings via Horseshoe Bay on those days.

Although B.C. Ferries hoped to have a third major vessel in service Saturday for the route, the return of the Coastal Inspiration has been pushed back a couple of days.

The corporation says the work to repair the ferry’s propeller hub is highly technical and taking longer than expected, with the ship’s return date now July 2.

For anyone with a flexible travel schedule, a 12:30 a.m. sailing has been added at the end of the sailing day for both Thursday and Friday leaving Horseshoe Bay.

B.C. Ferries expects all routes to be busy between Thursday and next Tuesday and advises you to travel by foot, if possible, and get a ride through public transit or someone you know to the terminal.

Saturday traffic is also expected to be busy in the morning and Sunday is forecast to be the least busy of the days affected.
