Victoria police say a man is in custody in an assault case that happened late Wednesday night in the Oaklands area.
Patrol officers were called to the 1000-block of Haultain Street just after 10 p.m. for a report of an assault at a home.
Police officers learned the suspect had taken off once they arrived.
VicPD K9 officers were called to help and police surrounded the area and set up containment.
After a brief search, the suspect was taken into custody without incident and was held for a court appearance Thursday morning.

VicPD says the victim declined medical treatment.
