Staff responsible for a wide range of duties at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria have voted in favour of unionizing.

The 37 members staff members at AGGV will join the same union that currently represents Greater Victoria Public Library Staff.

A BC Labour Relations Board vote was held on November 30th.

“Our members are a very diverse group who proudly provide library services to the citizens of and visitors to the Greater Victoria area,” said CUPE 410 President Helen Hughes.

“We warmly welcome these new members. As cultural workers providing the public access to cultural and recreational resources, they are a good fit with our local.”

In a statement, the union says the AGGV staff provide everything from curatorial services, exhibit design and preparation, to the art rental and sales program, membership coordination and donor services, accounting, IT, security and custodial services.

“We look forward to getting to know our newest members and working with them towards their first collective agreement with CUPE,” said Hughes.

Including staff from AGGV,  CUPE 410 now represents almost 300 workers.
