As students at Emily Carr University of Art + Design returned to class for the first time more than a week after a fire, Vancouver Police have made an arrest in connection with the suspected arson at the school.

40-year-old Nathan McLeod was picked up on Friday and has been charged with two counts of break and enter and one count of arson.

The fire in the early hours of Saturday, October 5 caused damage to the Research + Industry Office and nearby hallways.

There was also extensive water damage to walls and ceilings.

University staff returned to work last Wednesday once administrative and common areas were deemed safe; Faculty were back at work on Thursday.

 

Some areas at the University will remain closed, while others will be under construction for the several weeks. The restoration process may continue through the rest of the fall semester.
