An Oak Bay man charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of his two daughters will be back in court March 29.

Forty-four-year-old Andrew Berry, wearing a dark shirt, made a brief appearance in a Victoria courtroom by video Thursday.

Berry, who is represented by Kevin McCullough, will be back in court by a video feed for a focus hearing March 29, which is anticipated to last about half an hour.

Prosecutor Patrick Weir said the purpose of the hearing is to assist the courts to manage time for a preliminary hearing, which the crown expects to last more than three days. The preliminary hearing will determine if there’s enough evidence to the send the case to trial.

Berry remains in custody and is accused of murdering six-year-old Chloe Berry and four-year-old Aubrey Berry. He has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder.

The bodies of the two sisters were discovered by police at Berry’s Oak Bay apartment last Christmas day.

Berry was taken to hospital with self-inflicted wounds and was arrested after he was released from the hospital.
