Hamburgers, though delicious, are not accepted as ID.

It’s a strange reminder, but officers faced this Friday night after an allegedly impaired driver arrived at their roadblock and tried to hand the snack over instead of his drivers’ licence.

On social media, officers say the man almost struck a reserve constable on his way in and was so impaired he could not provide a sample for impairment testing.

That night officers say two other drivers were also taken off the road.

With the holidays around the corner ICBC, in partnership with officers across the province, has started their CounterAttack campaign that looks to take impaired drivers off the road.

Police are setting up roadblocks across the province during the campaign, that ends on Jan. 1.

ICBC is reminding the public that programs such as Operation Red Nose are available and provide safe rides to those who feel unfit to drive from Nov.30 until Dec. 31 on Friday and Saturday nights, including New Year’s Eve.

Other options like a designated driver, taxi and public transit are also recommended.
