WATCH: A newly rebranded casino in View Royal hopes to become the entertainment hub of Greater Victoria. Ceilidh Millar reports.
Final preparations are underway at the site of the View Royal casino which is about to unveil a fresh new look.
“We’re not just the gaming house anymore,” explained Chris Lynn, the Vancouver Island executive director of Great Canadian Casinos Inc. “We wanted to be vibrant, bright and a fun place to be.”
On Saturday, the rebranded Elements Casino Victoria will officially open to the public.
The multi-million dollar expansion of the 70,000 square foot casino has been in the works for nearly fifteen months.
“We’re really looking forward to being at the top of everyone’s list when it comes to entertainment choices”, said Lynn.
The expansion features nearly 800 slot machines, 25 table games and several new dining options.
“We’ve more than doubled in size,” Lynn explained.
However, some in the community are questioning if View Royal needs a bigger casino.
Lynn says the expansion has already had a positive impact on the community including the creation of more than 100 jobs.
“We’re a team of more than 300 members now,” Lynn said.
The casino has also opened a 500 seat theatre and is set to host live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights.
Performing to a sold-out crowd on opening night tomorrow is Canadian singer Tom Cochrane.
“He really is a Canadian legend,” Lynn explained. “We’re very excited to have him here for opening night.”
