Victoria police says a male has been arrested after a stolen bike was found for sale online by its owner.

Police received a call July 3 that a bike had been stole from an underground parking garage in the 600-block of Michigan Street.

The victim told police she would keep an eye on local websites selling used goods in case her bicycle was posted for sale.

On Tuesday, she saw her bike for sale online for sale and a friend called the seller and offered to meet to buy it.

On Wednesday morning, the suspected thief arrived for the meeting and was greeted by a plainclothes Victoria Police officer.

The suspect was taken into custody and police say charges are being recommended including possession of stolen property.

The bike has been returned to its owner, who police say greatly helped their investigation with her “tenacity” and online search.

Victoria Police says you can protect yourself against a bike theft by registering your bike, which makes it easier for officers to identify it as stolen, and if recovered, have it returned.
