Driver taken to hospital by helicopter after rollover south of Campbell River

WATCH: An air ambulance takes one patient to hospital after a crash on Hamm Road in Black Creek.

One driver was taken to hospital by helicopter early Tuesday morning after he collided with a deer then rolled his car into a ditch in the Black Creek area.

According to authorities, at around 5:45 a.m., the driver was going west on Hamm Road, west of the Old Island Highway (Highway 19A), when he hit a deer. His car then rolled into a ditch.

The man, who was the only one in the car, was trapped. Oyster River Fire Rescue firefighters rescued the man. He sustained spinal and head injuries and was flown to hospital in Vancouver.
