A couple of Saanich police officers channelled their inner cowboy by roping a big pig on the loose Friday morning.

Sgt. Jereme Leslie said police got a complaint at 6:45 a.m. of a pig making a run for it on Cordova Bay Road and was heading towards the highway.

Since the police pound section was not on duty, three officers were dispatched to corral the hog.

The pig was returned to its owner on Cordova Bay Road but then got out again.

This time, the pound section took over and the porker was caught a second time.
