Man taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries following Nanaimo stabbing

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating after a serious stabbing sent one man to hospital early Saturday morning in Harewood.

Police have taped off the scene, a parking lot on the east side of what was formerly known as King Arthur’s Court on Nanaimo’s 5th street.

“This is really scary,” said neighbour Tanya Wyse. “This is supposed to be a family community.”

First responders got the call two o’clock.

“Officers arrived on scene and located a 25-year-old male with several stab wounds,” said Sgt. Jon Stuart of Nanaimo RCMP. “He was rushed to the hospital and he is suffering from life-threatening injuries.”

Police say they located a male suspect soon after and arrested him. He is still in custody and will appear before a Justice of the Peace.

Mounties are not revealing the suspected motive.

King Arthur’s Court had a notorious reputation for problems and crimes in the past but since new ownership took over nearly a year ago, and renamed it Sanala, residents say they’ve seen many improvements.

“It sure has,” said Wyse. “I am happy to be here but now after everything that’s happened I’m kind of iffy so I’m keeping my kids close.”

“I mean you hear all the stories about King Arthur’s Court and everything but to have it happen here again is pretty crazy,” said resident Matt Cowie.

A family member of the 25-year-old stabbing victim says he’s is in an induced coma. He’s also set to become a father as his girlfriend is pregnant.
