At the top of the lengthy Angus Reid survey results that show what Canadians are scared of are: illness, death, and finances.
Other real-world frights include loneliness and failure.
With everyone going on in the world. it may not be surprising to learn politics made the list.
Three-point-eight per cent of participants say they’re scared of Justin Trudeau and Canadian government, ahead of the 3.5 per cent that say they’re afraid of United States President Donald Trump.
Then there are the classic fears of the creepy crawly that Hollywood likes to capitalize on, including arachnophobia or a fear of spiders, ophidiophobia or a fear of snakes, and coulrophobia or a fear of clowns.
A few others that made the list include aging, small spaces, public speaking, aliens, and surveys.
And seven per cent of respondents said they have no fear at all.
There are many haunted houses in the region that cater to people’s greatest fears including Carnevil at Galey Farms in Saanich.
“A lot of people get scared but people love that, it’s part of Halloween, and the Halloween spirit has just gotten bigger and bigger here in Victoria,” said owner Rob Galey.
The farm’s Festival of Fear runs every night from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. through Halloween night.
