WATCH: Thousands from across Vancouver Island and beyond gathered at the 119th Victoria Day Parade. Isabelle Raghem reports.

Marching bands, large floats and Superman walked through the street of Victoria Monday morning.

The parade began at 9 a.m. at Mayfair Mall and continued along Douglas Street, before finishing at the intersection of Douglas and Humboldt Street.

Organizers of the Island Farms Victoria Day Parade say over 3,000 people marched in the annual event.

While the final numbers have yet to be confirmed, organizers predict around 80,000 people showed up.

“From the people who I’ve talked to and that have been in this parade for years and years,” organizer Kelly Kurta with the Greater Victoria Festival Society, said

“They said it’s probably the biggest crowd they’ve ever seen.”

Kurta says the great weather helped a lot with getting such a high turnout.

“It’s about 20,000 more when it’s a sunny day.”
