An earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Vancouver Island on Monday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

An earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Vancouver Island on Monday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The scientific agency says the mild quake hit southwest of the Island, approximately 253 kilometres from Tofino.

The USGS says that the earthquake struck at an approximate depth of 10 km at around 5:54 a.m. PT on Feb. 22.

USGS experts have yet to receive any reports of injuries or damage following the quake, adding that they aren’t expecting any either.

Under the agency’s ranking system, the shake was classified as weak.
