Dozens of planes will flyover the Lower Mainland in honour of Royal Canadian Air Force Capt. Jenn Casey later today.

Dozens of planes will fly over the Lower Mainland in honour of Royal Canadian Air Force Capt. Jenn Casey on Monday.

BC General Aviation Association said in a release that 35 of its member pilots will depart from Abbotsford and fly across the Lower Mainland to pay tribute to the Snowbirds, essential workers, and the Canadian Armed Forces.

“The Canadian Snowbirds are the truest form of Canadian Pride. Yesterday they suffered an unimaginable loss during their mission Operation Inspiration Torch and lost a team member in a tragic accident. As an aviation community and Canadian family let’s pick up where the Snowbirds left off in honour of Captain Jenn Casey in their mission to fly over Canada to lift the spirits of Canadians,” the association said in a media release.

According to the route map, the 35 planes will depart Abbotsford and travel over Langley, White Rock, Delta, Surrey, the Port Coquitlam area, North Shore and Vancouver.

“These aircraft will not be in any tight formation as we leave that kind of flying to the professionals. Once the first aircraft passes there will be a line of aircraft that will last approximately 14 minutes. Please join us in observing a moment of silence as the group flies over,” the association added.

Capt. Jenn Casey, a public affairs officer with the air force, was killed when the Canadian Forces Snowbirds plane she was travelling in crashed into a residential area in Kamloops yesterday morning. Capt. Richard MacDougall, the pilot of the aircraft, was also injured in the crash.

Casey was a former journalist and graduate of Royal Roads University.
