A 32-year-old Langford man was arrested following a “significant” drug and weapons bust earlier this month, according to Mounties.

On Friday, July 8, West Shore RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit teamed up with the detachment’s Drug and Organized Crime Unit to execute a search warrant on a home in the 600-block of Fairway Avenue near Goldstream Avenue.

Officers found and seized a shotgun, airsoft guns, ammunition and cash during their search, plus a “large amount” of pharmaceutical drugs, RCMP said in a news release.

Around 720 doses of suspected fentanyl, 2490 doses of suspected methamphetamine and 160 doses of suspected cocaine were also seized, according to police.

“The investigation is ongoing as further analysis will be done on the drugs and firearms seized. The West Shore RCMP will be working with BC Prosecution Services to forward the appropriate charges,” RCMP said in the release.

Police say the suspect, arrested for drug and weapon-related offences, has since been released from custody with a date in court scheduled for late October.

Const. Steve Marcil of West Shore RCMP’s Crime Reduction says local police “make it a priority” to target those trafficking illegal drugs locally.

“There is a nexus between the drug trade and gun violence, and we are always working hard to get both off the streets to keep our communities safe,” added Marcil.
