British Columbia health officials in a statement to the media Tuesday reported an estimated 235 new COVID-19 cases and eight deaths since their last update on March 15.

Of the eight deaths recorded, one was in the Island Health region, which also recorded 30 new cases of the virus.

The number of confirmed cases in B.C. is now an estimated 353,139 while the death toll climbs to 2,953.

Officials, in their statement, note that the overall case total has only increased by 174 due to a “data reconciliation from the preliminary numbers reported” on Tuesday. One death has also been removed from the death toll, due to what officials call a “data correction.”

There are currently 329 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 across British Columbia, 51 of whom are in intensive care. There are 16 fewer people in hospital with the virus today than there were on Tuesday.

Health officials have once again provided absolutely no information regarding cases and hospitalizations by vaccination status, citing a delayed “refresh” in BC Centre for Disease Control data.

B.C. has abandoned providing information about active case counts and real figures are likely higher due to limited access to testing.
