The province’s criminal justice branch revealed that a special prosecutor is assigned to the ongoing investigation into matters involving Nanaimo City Council.
The branch also revealed a member of Nanaimo council has been arrested for an alleged offense.
The CJB says Mark Jette was appointed back on December 16th 2016.
They would not say which council member had been arrested only that it was recent.
They say the information was made public Friday, months later, because it was “appropriate at this time”.
The city of Nanaimo says it is cooperating with the investigation but also offered no further details.
