A 23-year-old woman who was injured in a crash near Lantzville on Saturday is still in critical condition at a Victoria hospital.

The woman was airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after her vehicle rolled over on Highway 19 near the Superior Road intersection at around 5 p.m. on March 30.

Police, Emergency Health Services and the Lantzville Fire Department responded. Police said witness accounts indicate a tire on the woman’s vehicle may have blown out, causing the woman to lose control of her older model Mitsubishi and struck the median. Her vehicle flipped once and went off the highway before coming back and stopping in the southbound lanes.

The crash shut down both southbound lanes on Highway 19 for close to two hours. The vehicle was towed from the scene and an RCMP Traffic Analyst attended. The investigation is ongoing and is being handled by the Nanaimo Municipal Traffic Unit.

The woman’s name has not been released.
