A 22-year-old woman involved in a car crash in Nanaimo yesterday has been transported to a hospital in Victoria.

According to Nanaimo RCMP, the woman sustained serious injuries in a motor vehicle crash near the intersection of Jingle Pot Road and Third Street at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

The female was the lone occupant of the vehicle, a Honda Accord, police said, adding that it appears the female was travelling eastbound along Third Street when she lost control and ended up in a ditch on the left side of the road.

Several witnesses came to the aid of the woman, who was later taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and then transported to an unidentified hospital in Victoria.

Police say speed and weather conditions are considered to be contributing factors.
