A 17-year-old boy from Ladysmith, B.C. was arrested Tuesday after RCMP said a threat was made against Chemainus Secondary School on Snapchat.

According to police, the 17-year-old was seen holding a handgun, later determined to be an airsoft gun, and stating something to the effect of “Don’t go to school today,” in the post. The boy was arrested and is facing charges.

RCMP said officers will be at the school throughout the day to provide support and help students feel safe.
