Huge pumpkins abounded at the  2nd Annual Great Pumpkin Weigh Off Event in Duncan’s Old Farm Market on Saturday.

Growers from across the Island and beyond gathered to show off their colossal squashes, with the top prize for size going to a 1,541 pound pumpkin grown by Cindy Tobeck, from Olympia, Washington.

Tobeck says the winning pumpkin grew 40 pounds a day in August. She took home a cash prize of $750, with the second prize of $500 awarded to Joe Hanrahan for his 1,130 pound pumpkin, and the third prize of $250 awarded to Glenn Dixon for his 1,116 pound pumpkin.

Dixon, a grower from Mill Bay, says that the event is a new way for the community to come together and a crowd pleaser. “People always ask ‘how do you move those giants?'” Dixon wrote in an email. “We use a tripod lifter, chain hoist and custom lifting straps.”

The event also featured free face painting, pumpkin decorating, and coffee.
