West Shore RCMP say its Crime Reduction Unit arrested a 36-year-old man at the end of April after bank cards and women’s jewelry were stolen from a vehicle in Langford.

On April 15, West Shore RCMP received a report that those items were stolen from a vehicle parked near the 2900-block of Golden Spike Place in Langford.

Police determined that the bank cards were used at local convenience stores and were able to identify the suspect from the store video surveillance.

The Crime Reduction Unit found out where the suspect lived and executed a search warrant at the man’s Langford residence on April 29. Police said evidence related to the theft was found at the residence.

The 36-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of stolen property and fraud.

Theft from vehicles remains one of the highest reported crimes to the West Shore RCMP. Please take your belongings with you and don’t leave them in the car, Const. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP media relations officer, said in a statement.

In March, West Shore RCMP reported a 167 per cent increase in stolen vehicles and a and a 75 per cent increase in calls for break and enter into businesses.
