An RCMP patch is seen on a shoulder in Surrey, B.C., on Friday, April 28, 2023.

RCMP say one person is dead and others are seriously injured following a crash in the Whiskey Creek area on Thursday.

Around 11:20 a.m., the Oceanside RCMP and other first responders were called to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 4 and Carson Road, west of Parksville.

Mounties say a passenger in one of the two vehicles died at the scene. Meanwhile, several other occupants were taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Police did not specify how many other people were injured, and if they were in the same vehicle or were occupants of both cars.

“At this time, investigators can only confirm that the two passenger vehicles involved in the crash were travelling in opposite directions on Highway 4,” said Oceanside RCMP in a release Friday.

The Oceanside RCMP detachment is leading the investigation, with help from the RCMP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service.

Police say they are still working on notifying next of kin, and no further details on the identities of the people involved in the crash will be released at this time.

Anyone with information on the crash, such as witnesses or people with dashcam video, is asked to contact the Oceanside RCMP at 250-248-6111 and refer to file number 2024-1400.
