Sooke RCMP says a youth, suffering from significant injuries, was taken to hospital after reports of a stabbing incident Thursday afternoon.

Police say they were called on a report of a stabbing around 3:30 p.m., that happened on a wooded trail near the end of Throup Road in Sooke, near Journey Middle School.

Responding Sooke Mounties located the victim upon arrival, and a second youth was taken into custody without incident.

Police say witnesses on the scene provided first aid to the victim until a BC Ambulance crew arrived and later transported the victim to hospital.

A family friend of the victim told CHEK News that the youth is in stable condition with five wounds, the worst being an abdominal injury that needs more assessment.

The family friend added that it was a long night at the hospital but the family is together and processing.

We are grateful to those who immediately took action and rendered care to the victim said Acting Sooke RCMP Detachment Commander Kevin Shaw. This appears to be an isolated incident and there is no further risk to the public.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Sooke RCMP at 250-642-5241 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
