Police say a young pedestrian suffered critical, life-threatening injuries after they were struck in a Saanich crosswalk Monday night.
The pedestrian was struck in a marked crosswalk at Cedar Hill Cross Road at Merriman Drive at around 9:45 p.m., according to police.
The victim was rushed to Victoria General Hospital in critical condition and the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and is “fully cooperating” with investigators, police say.
Traffic collision analysts investigated the crash site, shutting down the road until 3:30 a.m.
“At this time, our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the youth involved in this very tragic event,” Saanich police spokesman Const. Markus Anastasiades said in a news release.
Police are not providing further information about the young victim including their age or gender. Police say it’s too early in the investigation to determine whether charges will be recommended, but alcohol has been ruled out as a factor.
