Operations have been suspended at a logging operation near Gold River, about 60 kilometres southwest of Campbell River, after a person was killed in a workplace incident.
Western Forest Products confirmed that an employee of one of the company’s contractors working at Tree Farm Licence 19 was killed, but did not provide further details.
“Our thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues impacted by this tragedy. On behalf of all employees at Western, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the worker’s family,” said Don Demens, president and CEO of Western Forest Products.
The company is working with its contractor and authorities including WorkSafeBC.
WorkSafeBC confirmed to CHEK News it was notified of the “serious workplace incident” south of Gold River and that a prevention officer had been assigned.
